Dear Members,
My most humble pranams to all. As you must be aware, a new committee of GCA Ottawa has been constituted for the upcoming year 2011 - 2012.
In the past year, GCA had organized several events and we got whole hearted support from the community on all the events, not forgetting an overwhelming pat on shoulder for United Picnic at Saunders Farm. We were also interviewed on CBC Radio for our Navratri Event, that was aired on the first day of the festival.
Volunteering is the best way to develop Leadership and our Youth is a prime example for being role models as leaders who encourage more youth to participate as well as lead several events throughout the year. Our Youth has and is actively serving our community for past four years. This year we have seven Youth Executives and they all are from various professional backgrounds such as Chartered Accountancy, Communication, Aeronautics Engineering, MBA, Molecular Sciences, Music Therapy, Nuclear Science Engineering, and Computer Engineering. Apart from their busy university schedules, exams, family, work, and spiritual participation, they also serve the GCA community.
We are working on two major projects along with our regular events for this year.
To build the bridge between the members who initially formed the GCA and the generation that is carrying the torch forward, a few of our Senior Leaders are working on organizing Seniors Activity / Club every month. This will include Gujarati Books Library, Information session on health; Fun filled Games, Joint Youth Activity, Spiritual Talks, Bhajans etc.
The second project includes organizing Charity Events for Cancer Research Foundation, Women’s Shelter and Clean water project. We have strong Charity Coordinators who will be specifically organising and managing these events.
Our Cultural Coordinator and Community Outreach Coordinator will be getting in touch directly with our community and community at large to make the upcoming events more exciting and vibrant.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dinaben Dattani, Pravinbhai Patel and Smitaben Bharadia, all of whom have been Past Presidents of GCA and are on board as Executives this year guiding us throughout the year.
We would also like to welcome all new families, as well students who come for further studies to Ottawa and encourage them to participate in all the events. Also, would like to extend my thanks to new comer Nayanbhai Thaker, Rajen Patel and Raj Vyas to join our Executive Team.
Last but not the least, we strongly request all the community members to join us for all the events and together, united, make all those events a great success. As said by Mahatma Gandhiji “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Let us all be the change and let us all stand for our community and make it stronger by the day.
Punita Patel
President GCA 2011 - 2012
